Yes! Newcastle is a family friendly destination. Activities abound close by the Convention venue and in the Newcastle region.
We are aiming at having free and discounted activities for family members to enjoy while delegates attend Convention. These activities may include things like (details to be confiremd) visits to beach/baths, National Park nature walk (probably along beach or around Blackbutt Reserve with it's Koala house and many other native animals), afternoon at Smartypantz indoor play/education centre, including afternoon tea; and discount vouchers for other nearby attractions. The idea is to offer dads (or whoever the carer may be) an easy way to entertain the kids while mum enjoys the convention. We are aiming to have most of the activities free, or at very low cost.
There is the possibility to enjoy the pristine white sandy beaches of Newcastle – within walking distance, jump on the free CBD bus and see the sites, or get physical on a bike (available for hire with kiddy carriages or seats).
We have also arranged discounted rates at Quest Serviced Apartments which are suitable for families and groups.

Fringed by golden beaches and spectacular waterways, the Hunter’s coast is welcoming an increasing number of conference delegates. Newcastle, capital of the Hunter and gateway to the region, is home to one of Australia’s busiest and scenic harbours. The many elegantly restored historic buildings are complimented by picturesque parks and gardens; an extensive selection of restaurants boasting cuisine from around the world; a long list of cultural facilities and the natural pristine beauty of the beaches and harbour. These all contribute to making Newcastle a very attractive destination.
As a gateway to the Hunter Region Newcastle is ideally located to provide a comprehensive list of activities and excursions for delegates and their families. Option available within an hour of the CBD include vineyard tours, dolphin/whale watching cruises, quad bike rides on the Stockton Sanddunes, exploration of the city’s many art galleries, a visit to one of the states most notorious jails, shopping in an array of antique shops, a guided tour of the Bathers Way Coastal Walk, a tour down a coal mine, breakfast with the birds at the internationally recognised Shortland Wetlands, or afternoon tea with the koalas at Blackbutt Reserve – the choices are endless!
Nearby Lake Macquarie is Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake and offers a great variety of water based activities and magnificent hinterland forest experiences.
There is also the beautiful Port Stephens area, less than an hour from Newcastle CBD, to explore at your leisure.
